My grandmother lived on the coast of Japan. Every morning, she massaged her skin with oils she made from the kelp that grew along the shore. She was in her 70s. Her skin was extraordinary. The Ingredient
Ecklonia cava is a brown marine algae harvested from the deep cold waters off the coasts of Japan and Korea. It has been studied for over 40 years by researchers across Asia — and remains almost entirely unknown to Western skincare.
What sets it apart is its molecular structure. Unlike most plant-based antioxidants, Ecklonia cava is fat-soluble, meaning it penetrates below the skin's surface rather than sitting on top of it. It inhibits the enzymes responsible for breaking down collagen and elastin. It neutralizes oxidative stress at the cellular level.
